Merino wool production involves several stages, from raising Merino sheep to processing their fleece into yarn and fabric.

RAISING MERINO SHEEP! Merino sheep are bred and raised primarily for their high-quality wool. They are well-suited to various climates, including hot summers and cold winters. Merino sheep are typically sheared once or twice a year to harvest their fleece.
SHEARING: Shearing is the process of removing the wool fleece from the sheep's body. Skilled shearers use electric clippers to carefully remove the wool without harming the sheep. The fleece is removed in one piece and collected in large bags.
SORING AND GRADING: After shearing, the fleece is sorted and graded based on its quality. This involves separating the fleece into different grades based on factors such as fineness, length, strength, and color. The highest quality wool typically comes from the sheep's back and sides.
CLEANING: The raw wool fleece contains grease, dirt, and other impurities that need to be removed before further processing. This is done through a process called scouring, which involves washing the wool in hot water with detergent to remove grease and dirt
CARDING: Once the wool is clean, it is carded to align the fibers and remove any remaining impurities. Carding can be done using mechanical carding machines or hand carders, which resemble large brushes with wire teeth.
SPINNING: After carding, the wool fibers are spun into yarn using spinning machines. This process twists the fibers together to create a continuous strand of yarn. The thickness and twist of the yarn can be adjusted to produce different types of wool yarn.
WEAWING OR KNITTING: After carding, the wool fibers are spun into yarn using spinning machines. This process twists the fibers together to create a continuous strand of yarn. The thickness and twist of the yarn can be adjusted to produce different types of wool yarn
FINISHING: The finished fabric may undergo various finishing processes to improve its appearance, texture, and performance. This can include treatments such as dyeing, brushing, or coating with water-repellent finishes.
Merino wool is highly prized for its softness, warmth, breathability, and moisture-wicking properties, making it popular for a wide range of clothing and textile products, including sweaters, socks, scarves, and blankets.
